Benjamin was born in Standish, Cumberland County, Massachusetts to Clement Meservey and Sarah Ann Decker.  He lived in Massachusetts (Maine today) his entire life.  Benjamin married Rebecca Martin and had two sons: Joseph and George.

On 19 November 1779, Benjamin was chosen as a member of the Committee of Correspondence, Inspection and Safety, in Barrettstown, Hancock County, Massachusetts (Maine). Benjamin was commissioned First Lieutenant in Captain George Yeats’ 7th Regiment of the Lincoln County Militia.
